An ACMA Mission Lay Formation course for those still wondering how to better prepare for missionary activities. At the Lay Missionary Formation Open House in April, two young ladies who have been participating in mission since they were school girls said "We have been waiting for such a course for a long time - it would have made a difference to our efforts". They were among the 50 lay people who came to hear what ACMA had to offer them in terms of formation and preparation for missionary activity The Lay Missionary Formation Programme kicked off on 29th June with Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle's keynote address at the Asian Missionary Congress held in Chiangmai. With much humour Bishop Antonio discussed the use of story telling in evangelization and how telling our own Jesus stories we can share our faith. The evening was attended by 28 catholics who are keen to participate in missionary activities. Among the attendees was Regina Lim who commented that the session was very interesting and exciting. She decided after the session to sign up for the formation programme. This modular programme is made up of classroom as well as practical sessions. The first proper starts on 13 July at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Participants will be required to go for one of mission exposure trips organized by the five lay mission groups who are assisting in the formation programme. The Archdiocesan Commission for Missionary Activity (ACMA) was set up by the Senate of Priests in Singapore to promote mission awareness and participation among the faithful and missionary outreach to others. ACMA believes that this missionary activity is to take place, not only overseas but also on home shores. To this end, various courses on mission awareness and mission orientation are held in the Archdiocese. The latest thrust is the Lay Missionary Formation programme which begins 29 June 2010. Raising mission awareness is an important objective. ACMA does this through an annual Mission Photo Competition. ACMA holds that all Christians are called to share their faith with others, with evangelising being a way of life. It therefore directs the New Evangelization Team (NET), which runs formation courses on discipleship and evangelization. Introduction to Christianity, by way of leaflets, booklets on Christian living and some of courses for non-Christians, is offered under the auspices of ACMA. Parishes in Singapore are encouraged to become catalysts of missionary activity through Parish Mission Groups. The faithful are also invited to be more aware of mission through regular publication of supplements in the Catholic News. |
